I'm still not over it, but I'm getting better. :)Farrah Rochonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13734081434172632431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8629757467521843286.post-28864000288017436802008-08-22T12:48:00.000-04:002008-08-22T12:48:00.000-04:00LANA, I think the trick for getting more comfortab...LANA, I think the trick for getting more comfortable the more you speak is to keep speaking. I know for myself, if I don't speak in public (or do something else scary) for a while, I lose the comfort level I had built up to and have to start from near scratch again.

SIDNEY, thanks for stopping by.

CHRISTEE, thanks for the extra tips.

STEVE, don't give up on that checkered suit too soon. You wouldn't need a rubber chicken if you wore that.Shauna Robertshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03871768714926149114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8629757467521843286.post-13283688134944947102008-08-22T02:59:00.000-04:002008-08-22T02:59:00.000-04:00Golldang it, and here I had my public-speaking out...Golldang it, and here I had my public-speaking outfit all picked out: black-and-yellow checkered suit two sizes too small, with my lucky eight dollars in small change jingling in my pockets!

Hafta rethink that...Steve Malleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17561234111786788616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8629757467521843286.post-13731035953632804852008-08-21T21:38:00.000-04:002008-08-21T21:38:00.000-04:00Wow! I'd send you checks, but I'm a writer ... so they'd bounce.

As for where to find humor -- I can't tell a joke, so I count on observational humor. Thank goodness it's so easy to find!!

Like these examples:

Newspaper Headline: Blizzard Hits Four States. One is Missing.

Classified ad: Tired of cleaning yourself? Let me do it.

Bumper sticker: Jesus is coming. Everybody look busy.

Quotes:

Erma Bombeck: Seize the day. Remember those women on the Titanic who waved off the dessert cart.

Or even our own actions can make us laugh when we look at them more closely. Like the fact that I realized I use my exercise bike as a coat rack. And I think that Prozac and cheesecake serve pretty much the same purpose.

So I just carry a notebook with me at all times and make notes of everything from incorrectly spelled signs to unintentionally funny emails (like the one I got that said a woman was not going to be able to attend a training session and she was sorry for the "incontinence").

Once we start looking, we realize that jokes are just out there waiting for us to notice them. And they're free!

Thanks again for visiting with me,
Christee & ElvisAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08948899557245709633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8629757467521843286.post-25223990976834406592008-08-21T05:43:00.000-04:002008-08-21T05:43:00.000-04:00Good tips!Good tips!Sidneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16284680909152676159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8629757467521843286.post-39594782113586176692008-08-21T01:05:00.000-04:002008-08-21T01:05:00.000-04:00*LOL @ the safety award story!*The more you speak ...*LOL @ the safety award story!*
The more you speak in public, the easier it gets. I can personally attest to the fact that this is not always true. It seems many speakers at least start with a joke even if they are serious for the rest of the talk. CHRISTEE, if you're listening in, do you have any suggestions on finding appropriate jokes?

CARLEEN, I agree!
